Our heartfelt prayers and good wishes are with the victims of Hurricane Harvey.  As time goes by, and as the immediacy of the event and of its media coverage diminishes, it is especially important to keep in mind, and support, those many who are suffering as a result of Hurricane Harvey.  We ask you therefore to please continue to give generously to help them – please donate to the Red Cross or to any other bona fide charity of your choice that will legitimately, directly, and practically help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.  God bless all those who are suffering and all those who are helping.

~ Give the gift of HONEY - for a SWEET New Year! ~

Rosh Hashanah is coming up soon -- arriving Thursday evening, September 21.   ACI has a beautiful and novel way for you to send sweet wishes to friends and family for the New Year -- and it benefits ACI at no additional cost to you!

We're so pleased to present our class schedule for MASKIT, the Youth Education Program at Astoria Center of Israel, for the 5778 (2017-2018) school year. See below for a full list, and join us at our open house on September 17, 2017. Learn more about our MASKIT.

Take a look at the poster of our classes here, or continue reading below. Programs marked with an asterisk require synagogue membership.

Teach with MASKIT, our Youth Education Program at Astoria Center of Israel.

The following positions are available for 5778 (the 2017-2018 school year). We encourage applicants who can commit to multiple positions, but will accept applications from those applying to specific roles. All teachers will be given a full schedule of classes and ACI activities. Teachers are expected to be able to commit to the schedule, including occasional community events outside of the class hours (such as the Purim Party, the Chanukah Party, and the End-of-Year Shabbat Service).

We are excited to announce the renaming of our youth education program in order to better encompass and articulate the Jewish program and values we teach and uphold.

Rabbi Pearl conceived the name “MASKIT” (pronounced ‘Mah-skeet’ – the Hebrew word for ‘mosaic’) for our youth education program, which represents the guidance we provide to each child from the early years of synagogue school through the teen years of post-bar/bat mitzvah Jewish life.

Welcome the holiday with a lovely Dine and Drash on Tuesday, May 30, beginning at 7pm. Shavu'ot morning services begin at 9:30am on Wednesday, followed by a day of special Torah activities for students in our youth program, and Thursday at 9:30am, including Yizkor.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 7:10PM  METS vs THE PADRES

May 24 is Yom Yerushalayim -- Jerusalem Reunification Day! An ACI group will join the New York Mets for Celebrate Israel Night at Citi Field! If you arrive EARLY at 5:45pm to assemble with the ACI group at the left-field gate, our group will join others to be led onto the field for the National Anthem, and Astoria Center of Israel will receive a scoreboard welcome!=.

How phenomenally and joyously fortunate we are to live in a time when the entire city of Jerusalem – Ir Hakodesh, the Holy City – is once again ours, the eternal capital of the State of Israel and of the Jewish People.  This city, uniquely mentioned and indeed repeatedly featured in the Hebrew Bible, is foundational for us, the only people, religion, and nation to have ever held the sacred city of Jerusalem as its capital.  The Jewish People is filled with gratitude to [continue reading]

Dear Congregants and Friends,

We are pleased and proud to announce that the honoree for the 2017 ACI Journal is SKYEP (ACI's Hebrew School program).  In honoring SKYEP (Synagogue Kids and Youth Education Program), we will be recognizing and celebrating the several components of the Program, and its evolution and growth since its inception in 2009.
